Kathy’s step-grandmother was diagnosed with colon cancer and has seen firsthand how fecal diversion surgery and the issues associated with wearing an ostomy appliance impacted her quality of life. She knew she wanted to be an ET nurse and enrolled at the Cleveland Clinic R.B. Turnbull JR., MD School of (WOC) Enterostomal Therapy, where she gained an interest in wound care as well. Kathy is a certified nurse with more than 25 years of experience, including more than two decades as a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse. She has also served as an Adjunct Clinical Nursing Instructor and worked in Staff Development instructing registered nurses and nursing assistants on how to prevent pressure ulcers and how to use skin/wound care products to improve patient outcomes. Kathy earned a BSN from Kent State University and an MSN with a concentration in Nursing Informatics from Walden University. Additionally, Kathy is a member of WOCN, Sigma Theta Tau, and Golden Key International Honour Society.

Amanda began her medical career as an EMT in the field and in local ERs in 2008. She went on to become an LPN and worked in a correctional facility for 4 years, where she was exposed to a variety of conditions and discovered her passion for wound care. Her family experienced a significant loss of a loved one in 2015 as a result of an improperly managed DFU. Amanda left corrections after obtaining her RN license to work in home health and expand her knowledge of wound care. During this time, Amanda received her Wound Care Certification and learned about insurance companies and how their policies affect a patient’s recovery. Amanda left home health in 2021 to open a wound care center in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she earned her certification for conservative sharp edge debridement. Amanda is a member of the American Nurses Association and American Professional Wound Care Association as a Diplomate (DAPWCA). Additionally, she is a proactive nurse who believes that being prepared and knowledgeable about a condition is a joint responsibility of the medical staff, the patient, and the caregivers. Amanda has made it her life’s mission to share her knowledge and wound care experience with anyone and everyone after witnessing firsthand the consequences of poor education and poor wound management. As part of her mission, Amanda has partnered with iWound to help create a single source of information for all things wound care, and she plans to advocate for wound care education and clinical experience to be included in nursing curricula across the country.
